Phillies' Jeanmar Gomez collects 17th save versus Tigers

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jeanmar Gomez earned his 17th save of the season in Wednesday afternoon's 8-5 defeat of the Detroit Tigers.

What It Means:

Gomez retired Cameron Maybin, J.D. Martinez, and Miguel Cabrera in order in the bottom of the ninth inning to preserve Philly's three-run lead. The 28-year-old right-hander has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2016 fantasy season so far, boasting a 2.45 ERA in 25 2/3 frames. He is 17-for-18 in save opportunities.

Despite the impressive ERA and save total, Gomez has a 3.95 xFIP and just a 17.6 strikeout percentage. Our models currently project him to record a 2.91 ERA, an 18.9 strikeout percentage, and 19 saves over the remaining course of the season.
