David Freese fractures thumb after being hit by pitch

After being hit by a pitch in last night's game, David Freese has been diagnosed with a fractured thumb and will be out at least 4-6 weeks, possibly more.

What It Means:

It's now even more likely that the Angels look to outside of their organization for some help on their offense, which is ranked middle-of-the-pack in wOBA (.313), even with the presence of Mike Trout and Albert Pujols. Freese had been hitting .240/.309/.397 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI this year, to go along with a 0.12 nERD. While none of those numbers are eye-popping, they were solid numbers for a six hitter and his presence will be missed both offensively and defensively. The Angels will likely call up Kyle Kubitza, who is hitting .276/.347/.454 in Triple-A with five home runs and 33 RBI.
