Seattle Mariners starting pticher Nathan Karns was unable to earn his fifth victory of the season in taking a no-decision against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday, surrendering three runs on five hits over five-plus innings.
Karns came out to start the sixth inning and immediately ran into trouble, allowing back-to-back singles to Stephen Vogt and Danny Valencia. He was lifted for reliever Nick Vincent at that point, with Vincent subsequently allowing a sacrifice fly to Khris Davis to account for the third and final run on Karns' line. A Memorial Day home date with the San Diego Padres shows next on his schedule.
For the season, the 28-year-old right-hander holds a 3.53 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 23.94 strikeout percentage over nine starts (51 innings). His record remains at 4-1 on the year.
