Rangers call up prospect slugger Joey Gallo
Texas Rangers prospect Joey Gallo has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.
Gallo missed three weeks with a strained groin, but he went 5-for-16 with a homer and four RBI's in four games since returning to action. Interestingly, he made a start at first base on Sunday, which could eventually be an option with Mitch Moreland and Prince Fielder struggling. He hasn't played the outfield at all this season, but the Rangers figure to give him some looks there with Shin-Soo Choo and Drew Stubbs now both on the disabled list. Assuming the playing time is there, the young slugger is worth a flier in most formats. Expect plenty of strikeouts, but the power potential is huge.
Gallo put up a .305 wOBA in 123 major league plate appearances in 2015 along with a .417 slugging percentage. That said, he had a 46.3 percent strikeout rate in his debut year.
