Oakland Athletics pitcher Henderson Alvarez had an MRI taken on his troublesome shoulder, but it came back inconclusive.
The results are being sent to Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion. Alvarez was shut down this week after experiencing soreness in his surgically-repaired right shoulder coming out of a decent five-inning minor league rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Nashville. It was supposed to be his final rehab outing before joining the Athletics.
Alvarez hasn't seen significant innings since 2014, when he posted 3.70 SIERA (2.65 ERA) with a meager 14.3 percent strikeout rate in 30 games.
