Giants activate George Kontos (elbow) off disabled list
The San Francisco Giants activated reliever George Kontos from the 15-day disabled list.
What It Means:
Kontos missed a month with a strained flexor tendon. He had registered a 1.59 ERA over his first 8 appearances this season out of the Giants' bullpen. The right-hander had a 2.33 ERA in 73 appearances last year.
Despite the impressive ERA last season, Kontos posted a 4.01 xFIP, and the same is the case this season (1.59 ERA versus a 4.13 xFIP). His strikeout percentage in 2015 was well below league average at 15.5, and it's just slightly higher so far this season at 17.4. Our models currently project Kontos to record a 3.05 ERA and an 18.2 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
