Glen Perkins (shoulder) set for first bullpen session with Twins

Minnesota Twins pitcher Glen Perkins (shoulder) is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session on May 23.

What It Means:

He played a light game of catch Wednesday for the fourth day in a row, and everything has gone smoothly thus far. Of course, the real test for any injury to a pitcher is always going to be mound work. Perkins has been on the disabled list since April 13 with a left shoulder strain, and shoulder injuries tend to come with mid-rehab complications. Kevin Jepsen is supposed to be filling in at closer for Minnesota, but he hasn't been any good and neither have the Twins as a whole. Trevor May could get a shot next.

Perkins has posted a strikeout percentage above 22 percent and recorded at least 32 saves in each of the past three seasons. He only blew three save opportunities last year. We project him to record a 4.36 ERA across 16 2/3 innings with a 22.2 strikeout percentage in 2016.
