Texas Rangers outfielder Kole Calhoun is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against right-hander Cody Morris and the Cleveland Guardians.
Josh Smith will shift into the designated hitter role in place of Calhoun while Bubba Thompson starts in left field and hits ninth.
