Royals' prospect Raul Mondesi suspended 50 games

Kansas City Royals prospect Raul Mondesi Jr. has been suspended 50 games for performance-enhancing drugs.

What It Means:

First-time PED offenders typically get 80 games, but Joel Sherman of the New York Post says Mondesi was able to show Major League Baseball that the banned substance he took (Clenbuterol) came from a cold medicine. The young shortstop made his major league debut in the 2015 World Series. He had been stationed this year at Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Mondesi is batting .250/.304/.462 this year with a .337 wOBA across 113 plate appearances. He's also recorded five home runs, 15 RBI's and 11 stolen bases. He's one of the Royals' top prospects.
