Reds' Devin Mesoraco has season-ending shoulder surgery

Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

What It Means:

Reds 'manager Bryan Price said the damage in Mesoraco's shoulder was worse than expected, and his recovery timetable is now six months rather than four months. He is done for the remainder of the 2016 season, having appeared in only 16 games. Mesoraco appeared in just 23 games last year due to hip injuries. Tucker Barnhart will take over the Reds' starting catching role.

Mesoraco finishes the 2016 season slashing .140/.218/.160 with just a .182 wOBA in 55 plate appearances. It's the second consecutive lost season for the 27 year-old, and his impressive 2014 season (25 home runs, 4.5 Wins Above Replacement) feels more and more like an outlier.
