Jim Johnson placed on disabled list (groin) for Atlanta

The Atlanta Braves placed pitcher Jim Johnson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 9, with a right groin strain.

What It Means:

Ian Krol will take his place in the Braves' bullpen. Johnson has been hit really hard of late and owns an ugly 7.90 ERA over 15 appearances overall this season.

It's a small sample size, but Johnson's 3.36 xFIP suggests his high ERA is inflated. His 23.3 strikeout percentage is well above his career average of 16.3 percent, so it's not all bad. Our models currently project Johnson to record a 3.92 ERA and 17.0 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
