Yankees place Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) on disabled list

The New York Yankees placed designated hitter Alex Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

What It Means:

A-Rod suffered the injury in the fifth inning Tuesday while running to first base. The veteran slugger is probably going to need more than the typical 15 days off. Dustin Ackley replaced him at designated hitter (DH) on Tuesday night, but look for the Yankees to work in several different names through the DH spot.

Rodriguez is slashing just .194/.275/.444 with five home runs and a .312 wOBA in 80 plate appearances this season. He had picked up his play over the last six games, however, slashing .368/.400/1.000 with three home runs and a .579 wOBA. Our models currently project the 40 year-old to post a .338 wOBA with 15 home runs over the remaining course of the season.
