Mariners place Tony Zych on disabled list with rotator cuff issue
The Seattle Mariners placed reliever Tony Zych on the 15-day disabled list with rotator cuff tendinitis.
Zych was rocking a 3.00 ERA and 19 strikeouts through 12 innings this season out of the Mariners' bullpen. It's not clear when he might be able to pitch again. Steve Johnson got the callup from Triple-A Tacoma.
Zych's 3.30 xFIP is just slightly above his 3.00 ERA, and his 38.0 strikeout percentage is currently 12th among qualified relievers this season. We had projected Zych to record a 3.13 ERA with a 29.7 strikeout percentage across 60 innings in 2016, but these numbers now depend on the severity of his injury.
