Pablo Sandoval undergoes season-ending surgery for Red Sox
Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval underwent season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Sandoval appeared in only three games this season for the Red Sox after showing up to camp out of shape and losing his starting third base job to Travis Shaw. Sandoval is still owed $58 million guaranteed.
Sandoval was looking to rebound from a disastrous first season in Boston, which saw him slash .245/.292/.366 with just a .288 wOBA in 126 games last year. His -2.0 Wins Above Replacement ranked dead last. Sandoval will have to delay his comeback tour until the 2017 season.
