Padres acquire Juan Soto from Nationals in blockbuster

The San Diego Padres are acquiring outfielder Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals.

What It Means:

The Padres are receiving Soto and first baseman Josh Bell from the Nationals in exchange for lefty starter MacKenzie Gore, rookie shortstop C.J. Abrams, top outfield prospects Robert Hassell III and James Wood, and right-hand prospect Jarlin Susana. The Nationals are also expected to receive infielder Eric Hosmer, but the veteran has to waive his no-trade clause before the deal will become official. Soto, 23, will remain under team control for two more years after the 2022 season.

Soto averaged 11.6 FanDuel points per game for the Nationals this season while slashing .246/.408/.485 with 21 homers, 46 RBI, 62 runs scored, and six steals across 436 plate appearances (101 games).
