Red Sox activate Carson Smith from disabled list

Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Carson Smith was activated from the 15-day disabled list.

What It Means:

Smith, who began the season on the disabled list with a strained flexor tendon, was cleared to join the Red Sox after making it through two minor league rehab games. The 26-year-old was acquired from the Seattle Mariners over the winter and is capable of being a dominant set-up man.

Smith posted a 2.36 xFIP and 2.1 Wins Above Replacement in 2015, which ranked fifth- and fourth-best among relievers. We have him projected to record a 3.13 ERA and 24.3 strikeout percentage against 177 batters in 2016.
