Tampa Bay Rays catcher Christian Bethancourt is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against right-hander Tyler Wells and the Baltimore Orioles.
Francisco Mejia will start at catcher over Bethancourt and bat eighth. The Rays transferred backstop Mike Zunino (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Friday, so Mejia and Bethancourt will continue splitting time behind the plate.
