Chris Bassitt goes on disabled list for Athletics with strained elbow
The Oakland Athletics placed pitcher Chris Bassitt on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.
It helps explain why Bassitt's velocity was down Thursday against the Detroit Tigers when he got pummeled for seven runs over 3 2/3 innings. It's unclear at this point how long Bassitt will be sidelined. Jesse Hahn will replace him in the rotation on Saturday.
Bassitt has a 4.81 xFIP in 28 innings pitched this season, and his 17.3 strikeout percentage is in line with his career average. Our models currently project him to record a 4.15 ERA and an 18.8 strikeout percentage across 107 innings pitched in 2016.
