Charlie Morton's hamstring MRI shows ugly results for Phillies
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Charlie Morton had an MRI on his strained left hamstring, and the result "wasn't as good as we were hoping," manager Pete Mackanin said Tuesday.
In other words, it's more than just a moderate strain. Morton has already been placed on the disabled list and could miss more than a month. He will be reevaluated later this week. Adam Morgan is probably going to take his spot in the Phillies' rotation.
After posting a 3.87 xFIP in 129 innings last season, Morton has a 2.89 xFIP in his 4 starts this season (17 1/3 innings). He's had a superior ground ball percentage for his career (55.4), but this season he's also striking out batters at a high rate (26.8 percent). Our models currently project Morton to post a 4.28 ERA and a 17.5 strikeout percentage across 151 innings pitched this season, but that depends on the severity of his injury.
