Tyler Wagner throws five scoreless on way to earning win for Diamondbacks
Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Tyler Wagner tossed five scoreless innings of relief for a win Thursday against the San Francisco Giants after replacing an injured Shelby Miller.
Wagner came in with the bases loaded and none out in the third and allowed just one of the runners to score in escaping the jam. He then allowed two hits and no walks over the next four innings. Wanger was making his second appearance since being called up from Triple-A. He was ineffective in his two starts there, and he didn't impress in his major league debut with the Milwaukee Brewers last year. He's the obvious choice to enter the rotation if Miller needs a stint on the disabled list.
Wagner had pitched two innings this season before today's performance. He faced eight batters, giving up two hits and fanning one.
