Red Sox to activate catcher Christian Vazquez
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez (elbow) will be activated ahead of Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Vazquez is recovered from Tommy John surgery and could take over as Boston's primary catcher with Blake Swihart and Ryan Hanigan both struggling. Vazquez is a good defender and hit pretty well in the minors before struggling in his first taste of the majors in 2014.
Vazquez, 25, posted a lousy .277 wOBA in 201 plate appearances with the Red Sox in 2014. We project Swihart, a one time top prospect, to hit to the tune of a .305 wOBA and six jacks this season.
