Cardinals' Brayan Peña undergoes surgery on left knee

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Brayan Peña underwent surgery Tuesday to remove loose cartilage from his left knee.

What It Means:

He's expected to miss most or all of April. "It was just the loose particle, and it's where they thought it might be," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny told MLB.com on Tuesday evening. "It was in a spot that was going to continue to be an issue. I think it was the right move to get that extracted." Eric Fryer is serving as St. Louis' backup catcher in Peña's absence.

Our models project Peña to post a .294 wOBA with a .266/.328/.344 slash this season.
