Yankees' Bryan Mitchell (toe) out at least four months
New York Yankees relief pitcher Bryan Mitchell will miss at least four months after undergoing surgery for a fracture left big toe on Tuesday.
Mitchell suffered the injury last Wednesday while covering first base. The 24-year-old right-hander had a chance to play a significant role in New York's bullpen this season, so this is a tough blow. He'll try to make it back for the stretch run.
Mitchell posted a 4.04 xFIP in 29 2/3 innings pitched last season. His 20.3 strikeout percentage was just below league average (20.4 percent), and his 11.2 walk percentage was worse than the 7.7 percent league average. The once comically-loaded Yankees' bullpen is quickly becoming shallow to begin the season.
