Arodys Vizcaino is Braves' preferred closer option
Atlanta Braves reliever Arodys Vizcaino is the team's primary option at closer, Braves' manager Fredi Gonzalez after Monday's loss.
Jason Grilli blew a save chance on Monday, but Vizcaino pitched the eighth inning against the heart of the lineup. While things didn't work out as planned, Gonzalez said he'll continue to use Vizcaino in the higher-leverage situations. "Whether it's the eighth inning or ninth inning, [Vizcaino] is going to face the tough part of the order," Gonzalez said. "Today, it just so happened to be the eighth inning. We've got to think outside the box a little bit. Today, it kind of materialized."
We project Vizcaino to post a 3.16 ERA with a 24.2 strikeout percentage over 56 innings. This news puts a dent into the value of Jason Grilli, although he'll still likely end up with a decent amount of save chances.
