Cubs release outfielder Shane Victorino
The Chicago Cubs have released outfielder Shane Victorino.
Victorino was in Cubs' camp on a minor league deal, but a nagging calf strain has kept him on the shelf for most of the spring. Chicago has offered to allow him to continue rehabbing in extended spring training, but it's unclear if Victorino will accept the team's offer to go down to AAA to start the year.
The 35-year-old Victorino has batted only .246/.306/.329 with three home runs and nine steals over the last two seasons while being limited to 101 games (337 plate appearances) due to a variety of ailments.
