Casey Janssen

Casey Janssen has been released by the Padres

The San Diego Padres released reliever Casey Janssen.

What It Means:

Janssen was in Padres camp this spring on a minor league contract after registering a 4.95 ERA over 40 innings with the Nationals in 2015. He allowed 12 hits and 4 earned runs in 7 Cactus League innings for the Friars, but the 34-year-old should be able to find another opportunity. Janssen held a 2.46 ERA in 173 appearances for the Toronto Blue Jays between 2011-2013.

Janssen's 4.60 xFIP ranked 11th worst among relievers who threw at least 40 innings last season, and his 16.3 strikeout percentage was well below the league average of 20.4 percent.
