Athletics trading Jesus Luzardo to Marlins
The Miami Marlins acquired left-handed pitcher Jesus Luzardo from the Oakland Athletics for outfielder Starling Marte, per multiple reports.
The Athletics optioned Luzardo to Triple-A toward the end of June after he recorded a 6.87 ERA over 38 innings (six starts). However, the left-hander is still only 23 and had relatively recently been regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. Luzardo should have a solid chance at making the Marlins' starting rotation in 2021.
Luzardo averaged 12.5 FanDuel points per start this season while registering a wOBA (.388) that ranks in the bottom three percent of the league. The positive in Luzardo's profile this season is his 95.6 mph fastball velocity, which ranks in the 83rd percentile among qualified pitchers.
