Andrew Bailey could be favorite to close for Phillies
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Andrew Bailey, who struck out all three batters he faced Tuesday, may be the new favorite to become the Phillies' closer, according to Ryan Lawrence of PhillyVoice.com.
Nothing is set in stone, obviously, but Bailey, who is in Phillies camp as a non-roster invitee, has pitched well this spring. David Hernandez entered camp as the favorite to work the ninth inning for the Phillies, but Bailey has struck out five batters in four scoreless innings in spring action. Bailey has had multiple arm injuries over the last few seasons, which has limited him to only 10 appearances in that span.
Bailey pitched well for the Oakland Athletics as their closer from 2009-'11, posting an average strikeout percentage of 24.8. He had 75 saves during those three seasons, and if he is finally healthy, he could have a role in Philadelphia or elsewhere.
