Chicago White Sox designated hitter Yermin Mercedes is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against right-hander Luis Garcia and the Houston Astros.
Yasmani Grandal will fill in for Mercedes at designated hitter and hit fifth. Zack Collins will catch Carlos Rodon and hit eighth.
