Javier Baez (back) sitting Sunday for Cubs

Javier Baez (back) will not start in the Chicago Cubs' Sunday afternoon game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

What It Means:

Baez was pulled from Saturday's game when his back tightened up on him. He'll sit today's game out as he recovers. Ildemaro Vargas will take over at shortstop and bat eighth.

Baez has been playing top-notch baseball this season when he hasn't been injured. Over 118 plate appearances he has 8 home runs, 18 runs, 25 RBI, and 6 stolen bases while batting .257 with a .814 OPS.
