Rockies' Jairo Diaz set to undergo Tommy John surgery
Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Jairo Diaz has been diagnosed with a torn UCL in his right elbow and will undergo Tommy John surgery.
It's a tough break for the 24-year-old right-handed pitching prospect as he was set to compete for a spot in the Rockies' bullpen this spring. He will miss the entire 2016 campaign and probably won't be back on a major league mound until around midseason in 2017.
In 19 major-league innings pitched in 2015, Diaz compiled a 2.37 ERA (3.27 xFIP) with a 23.1 percent strikeout rate and 7.7 percent walk rate.
