Houston Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez was placed on the injured list Wednesday afternoon.
According to general manager James Click, Alvarez and four of his teammates - Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Martin Maldonado and Robel Garcia - were all placed on the injured list due to the league's health and safety protocols surrounding COVID-19. On Wednesday, Alvarez will be replaced at designated hitter by Ronnie Dawson against Detroit Tigers starter Michael Fulmer.
In 49 plate appearances this season, Alvarez has a .283 batting average with an .806 OPS, 2 home runs, 7 runs and 8 RBI.
