Athletics acquire Chris Coghlan from the Cubs

The Oakland Athletics acquired utility man Chris Coghlan from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Aaron Brooks.

What It Means:

Coghlan had a solid 2015 in Chicago, slashing .250/.341/.443 with 16 homers and 11 stolen bases in 148 games, but he had little chance of seeing the field in 2016 due to a roster loaded with young position player talent, in addition to the re-signing of Dexter Fowler. The versatile Coghlan has a much better chance at seeing the field in Oakland. Coghlan is owed $4.8 million for the 2016 season and can become a free agent next winter.

Coghlan posted a .337 wOBA and career highs in fWAR (3.3), Isolated Power (.193) and walk percentage (11.5) in 2015 with the Cubs. His status with Oakland is worth monitoring in case he wins a starting gig.
