Royals sign Clint Barmes, Ross Ohlendorf and Brian Duensing
The Kansas City Royals signed infielder Clint Barmes to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Barmes had no luck on the free agent market this winter after the San Diego Padres declined his $2 million option for 2016. Consider him organizational infield depth for the Royals. Pitchers Ross Ohlendorf and Brian Duensing have agreed to similar minor league contracts with the defending World Series champs.
The soon-to-be 37-year-old Barmes batted just .232/.281/.353 in 98 games last season for San Diego, and racked up a -8.7 Ultimate Zone Rating per 150 game average.
