Rangers agree to minors deal with Ike Davis

The Texas Rangers have agreed to a minor league deal with Ike Davis, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

What It Means:

The 28-year-old slugger clubbed 32 home runs and drove home 90 runs for the New York Mets in 2012 but has slashed just .222/.328/.356 with 23 long balls and 223 strikeouts in 891 at-bats over the past three seasons. There's still intriguing talent here, so it makes for a nice low-risk signing for the Rangers. He'll compete for a spot on the Rangers bench this spring.

In 239 plate appearances with the Oakland Athletics last season, Davis posted a .288 wOBA with three homers, finishing with -0.4 Wins Above Replacement.
