Joel Peralta signs minor league deal with Mariners
The Seattle Mariners signed reliever Joel Peralta to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Peralta will turn 40 years-old in March and only pitched 29 innings last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers as he dealt with neck and should injuries. The Mariners are willing to take a gamble on the veteran as their bullpen had the seventh-worst xFIP last season at 4.17.
Peralta posted a 4.39 xFIP and 19.8 strikeout percentage (K%), which is just below the league average, last season. He owns a 3.98 career xFIP, and his career-best 3.11 xFIP came in 2014 during 63 1/3 innings with the Tampa Bay Rays. His career K% is 22.8.
