Cardinals' Dexter Fowler boycotts Wednesday's game; Matt Carpenter enters lineup

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dexter Fowler will not play Wednesday in the team's game against the Kansas City Royals.

What It Means:

Three games on Wednesday's slate are not being played as the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners are boycotting to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake. The Cardinals will play, but Fowler removed himself from the lineup just as Jason Heyward did for the Chicago Cubs and Matt Kemp did for the Colorado Rockies. It's unclear if he'll play in the coming days, if those games are even played. For now, Tommy Edman will take over in right field and Matt Carpenter will play third base.

In 55 plate appearances this season, Fowler has a .260 batting average and a .727 OPS.
