Astros' Yordan Alvarez undergoing season-ending knee surgery
Houston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez will have season-ending surgery next week to repair a partially torn patella tendon in his right knee.
Alvarez was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to August 16, with right knee discomfort. The unanimous 2019 American League Rookie of the Year made just nine plate appearances over two games this season for the Astros. He turned 23 in June. Abraham Toro and Taylor Jones have been helping fill in at DH in recent days.
Alvarez owns a career .312/.410/.654 slash line with 28 homers, 26 doubles, and 82 RBI through 378 plate appearances.
