Orioles acquire Odrisamer Despaigne from Padres
The Baltimore Orioles acquired pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne from the San Diego Padres for minor league pitcher Jean Cosme.
Despaigne struggled last season with the Padres, posting a 5.80 ERA in 125 2/3 innings, but he comes with three minor league options and provides the Orioles with needed organizational pitching depth. Despaigne will probably start the 2016 season at Triple-A Norfolk, unless he has a strong spring and earns a long-relief role.
Despaigne's 4.37 xFIP was more than a run lower than his ERA but still high enough to be concerning. His 12.6 strikeout percentage was also significantly lower than the league average of 20.4 percent, although he had an impressive 50.5 ground ball rate.
