The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Jesse Biddle from the Philadelphia Phillies for pitcher Yoervis Medina.
This confirms reports from Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com. Once a mainstay on top 100 prospect lists, Biddle had Tommy John surgery back in October and was designated for assignment last week. The 24-year-old will miss the entire 2015 season, but Pittsburgh is known for revitalizing pitchers. This is as good of a landing spot as Biddle could have hoped for.
Biddle started 24 games across two minor league levels in the Phillies organization in 2015, throwing 125 1/3 innings with a 4.95 ERA. He also put up a 6.39 strikeouts-per-nine rate and 4.38 walks-per-nine rate.
