Michael Chavis on first base for Red Sox in season opener

Boston Red Sox infielder Michael Chavis is starting on first base and batting seventh against left-hander Tommy Milone and the Baltimore Orioles on Opening Day.

What It Means:

Chavis was beat out by Jose Peraza for the second base job but he's still expected to see starts at first over Mitch Moreland against lefties. He should also see time at second when Peraza is unavailable. The Red Sox also started Kevin Pillar in right field over Alex Verdugo against the left-handed Milone. Xander Bogaerts is in the cleanup spot after dealing with a hamstring issue earlier in camp. Boston's full Opening Day lineup: Andrew Benintendi LF, J.D. Martinez DH, Rafael Devers 3B, Bogaerts SS, Pillar RF, Christian Vazquez C, Chavis 1B, Jackie Bradley Jr. CF, Peraza 2B. Nathan Eovaldi is pitching.

numberFire's models expect Chavis to score 10.7 FanDuel points on Opening Day. He costs $2,600. Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the Red Sox are -215 favorites over the Orioles.
