Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana (thumb) played catch from 60 feet away on Thursday.
Quintana had stitches removed on Wednesday for an accident at home in which he broke a wine glass. "It's a big wait and see," Cubs manager David Ross said in regards to Quintana being ready when the season begins next week. The expectation is that the 31-year-old left-hander will open the year on the injured list. Alec Mills is slated to replace Quintana in the rotation.
numberFire's models currently project Quintana for a 4.58 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 41 strikeouts and 13 walks across 45 1/3 innings pitched this season.
