Cubs' Jose Quintana (thumb) to play catch Thursday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana is set to throw the ball around on Thursday after getting the stitches removed from his left thumb.

What It Means:

Quintana needed surgery after an accident at home in which he broke a wine glass, and that set him back a bit in terms of working out with the team. It seems to be a foregone conclusion he'll begin the pandemic-shortened season on the injured list, and the only question is just how long he'll be on the shelf for.

Our models currently project Quintana for a 4.58 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP, 41 strikeouts and 13 walks across 45.2 innings pitched.
