Astros place Joe Smith on restricted list
The Houston Astros placed reliever Joe Smith on the restricted list.
Smith is considering opting out of MLB's planned 60-game season over health concerns for his family. The 36-year-old right-hander is expected to operate in a setup role for the Astros if he winds up playing. He recorded a career-best 1.80 ERA with 22 strikeouts over 25 innings (28 appearances) last season.
numberFire's models currently expect Smith to post a 4.09 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 17 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings this season.
