Joe Musgrove expected to start Pirates' first game
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Joe Musgrove is scheduled to make his final intrasquad start on Saturday.
That puts Musgrove on track to start Opening Day for the Pirates on July 24 against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 27-year-old right-hander struck out seven batters in five innings during Monday's summer camp intrasquad game. He also allowed a first-inning home run. Musgrove regressed to a 4.44 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over 170 1/3 innings last season but his 21.9 strikeout percentage was on par with his career average (21.3).
numberFire's models expect Musgrove to record a 4.24 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 56 strikeouts and 15 walks over 61 2/3 innings this season.
