Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara will start Opening Day against the Philadelphia Phillies on July 24, manager Don Mattingly announced.
The Marlins aren't announcing the rest of their Opening Day rotation yet, but Jose Urena, Caleb Smith, and Pablo Lopez are expected to fill out the No. 2-4 spots in some order. Alcantara earned his first All-Star nod last season and finished with a 3.88 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 151 strikeouts, and 81 walks over 197 1/3 innings.
numberFire's models expect Alcantara to record a 4.52 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 53 strikeouts and 28 walks over 63 2/3 innings this season.
