Brandon Workman to open as primary closer for Red Sox
Boston Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke confirmed that Brandon Workman will open the season as the team's primary closer.
'He's got the ninth inning right now until something else happens,' Roenicke said. Workman posted a fiery 1.88 ERA last season and gave up just one home run over 71.2 innings pitched. Workman 'certainly deserves that role again,' in Roenicke's eyes.
numberFire currently projects Workman's ERA to regress to a still-solid 3.46 rate in 2020, with 33 strikeouts, 11 walks, and 3 home runs allowed.
