Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger (back, core) may not play this season, per Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto.
Haniger is on the 45-day injured list recovering from both a second core surgery and a back operation. He hasn't resumed baseball activities and Dipoto asked Haniger not to push anything. Kyle Lewis, Mallex Smith, and Jake Fraley are expected to be in the Mariners' outfield to start the season. Haniger's batting average (.220) was a career-low in 2019 and his OPS (.777) was the lowest since his first year in the majors.
Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the Mariners are tied for having the worst odds (+30000) to win the 2020 World Series.
