Rays' Ryan Yarbrough has 'positive audition' for rotation

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Ryan Yarbrough had "another positive audition" for a permanent starting spot in the rotation in an intrasquad appearance on Wednesday, writes Juan Toribio of MLB.com.

What It Means:

Yarbrough threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts while giving up 1 hit in Wednesday's outing. "Like I said in spring training, and it's still my goal right now, it's just to continue to show them and prove to them that I could be a full-time starter," Yarbrough said. "We have a couple of outings to continue to show that and prove to them that long term this is what I want to do and best help the team." Rays manager Kevin Cash heaped praise on the left-hander and indicated he will have a role, but wouldn't commit to Yarbrough as a regular starter. Yonny Chirinos and Tyler Glasnow are still not attending workouts due to undisclosed reasons, potentially improving Yarbrough's chances of earning that traditional starting role. He recorded a 4.13 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 117 strikeouts and 20 walks over 141 2/3 innings last season in the form of 14 starts and 14 extended relief appearances.

numberFire's models expect Yarbrough to pick up 3 wins this season with a 4.06 ERA and 41 strikeouts over 46 2/3 innings.
