Jonathan Villar bringing Marlins versatility

Miami Marlins infielder Jonathan Villar said Wednesday that he is preparing to play multiple positions this season for the Marlins.

What It Means:

Marlins manager Don Mattingly indicated back in February that Villar would likely begin the year as the starting centerfielder. Villar has also been working at second base and shortstop, which is where he spent his time last season. He could also see occasional DH at-bats. The Marlins acquired Villar in December after he slashed .274/.339/.453 with 24 home runs, 73 RBI, 111 runs scored, and 40 stolen bases over a full 162-game workload. The 29-year-old is expected to leadoff for Miami this season.

numberFire's models project Villar for a .266 batting average and .744 OPS with 6 homers, 20 RBI, 29 runs scored, and 12 steals in 225 plate appearances this season.
